	Faculty Dr. Hussein Y. Amin
	Dr. Hussein Y. Amin received his Ph.D. in 1986 from Ohio State University. He obtained his BA and MA from the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University, Cairo, Egypt. He is a professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, the American University in Cairo.
	Dr. Amin has taught a wide range of subjects from mass media research to television broadcasting to global journalism. He holds several key positions in both Egyptian and regional broadcasting, including the chairmanship of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU) Space Committee. He is a member in the Higher Committee for Specialized Nilesat Television Networks, the Specialized Committee on Egyptian Radio and Television Privatization, and the General Assembly of the Egyptian Ministry of Information. In addition, he is a member of the board of trustees of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union, the governing body of Egypt's radio and television broadcasting organization.
	Dr. Amin has extensive field experience in many areas of mass communication, including broadcasting management, strategy formulation and implementation, film and television production, and radio and television broadcasting. He worked in professional positions at Egyptian Television, in media companies in Egypt, and in public relations in the United States. He has participated in the production of television programs for U.S. and Arab networks, including educational, cultural, governmental, and news and public affairs programming, soap operas, and personnel training courses. Dr. Amin has consulted with a number of U.S., European, Arab, and Egyptian corporations, broadcasting networks, and development agencies including the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Cable News Network (CNN), Arab Radio and Television (ART), Arab Network of America (ANA), the Egyptian Satellite Channel (ESC) and others. Dr. Amin's research interests include transnational broadcasting, Egyptian and Arab media systems, global broadcasting, new communication technologies, and the impact of these new technologies on development. He has conducted extensive research and written widely on these topics, with more than 28 chapters and articles in professional journals and 40 conference presentations in English and Arabic to his credit. He has also delivered speeches and given lectures throughout the world on a wide range of topics in communication, information technologies, telecommunication and media and has been a discussant, respondent and panelist as well as a presenter in many regional and international conferences. He is a founding member and a member of the board of the ArabUnited States Association for Communication Educators (AUSACE), senior editor of the electronic journal Transnational Broadcasting (TBS), regional editor for the Middle East of the Journal of Global Media/Global Culture, director of the Adham Forum for Media Development (AFMD), and member of the editorial advisory board of the Journal of International Communication (JIC). He hasserved as a reviewer for many academic and professional organizations, among them the Journal of International Communication (JIC); the Binational Fulbright Commission, the Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange between the USA and the ARE; the Journal of Broadcast and Electronic Media; the Kuwaiti Scientific Establishment (Al-Mua'sasah Al-Almeih), and the American University in Cairo Press. Dr. Amin has received numerous awards in recognition for his contributions to the field, including medallions of honor from the Egyptian Ministry of Information and the Egyptian Radio and Television Union, and the Stephen Coltron Award for Excellence in Communication Theory from the International Radio and Television Society (IRTS). In addition, he was nominated in 1992 to receive the King Badouin Award for Excellence in International Development. Dr. Amin is a member of the ArabUnited States Association for Communication Educators (AUSACE), the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), the International Association for Mass Communication Research (IAMCR), the International Communication Association (ICA), the Broadcast Education Association (BEA), and the International Radio and Television Society (IRTS).
