Amin Chairs JRMC Department
Dr.
Hussein Amin, Adham Center senior associate and professor of journalism and mass
communications at the American University in Cairo, has taken over as chairman
of AUC's JRMC department. He began his term with the fall semester 2002.
Along with his work at
AUC, Dr. Amin is active in national, regional, and global media. He is chairman
of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union (ERTU)'s Satellite Committee, as well
as of the Advisory Board of the Arab Defense League. Dr. Amin is also a distinguished
member of the Board of Advisors of the Arab Media Group, the Higher Committee
for Specialized Nilesat Television Networks, the Board of Directors of the International
Academy for Media Sciences, the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass
Communication Internationalization Task Force, the Board of the Arab Thought Foundation,
and the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union, the governing
body of Egypt's radio and television broadcasting organization.
The newly appointed chairman
is an active member in several media associations. He is a founding member and
president of the Arab-US Association for Communication Educators (AUSACE), and
is preparing for the AUSACE 2002 conference in Beirut. He is the chairman of the
International Division of the Broadcast Education Association (BEA), one of the
world's leading organizations for broadcast education. On 2 October 2002, Dr.
Amin inaugurated the revived Mass Communication Association at AUC with a lecture
entitled "The Future of Egyptian Media." Dr. Amin is also a senior editor
of the Adham Center's online journal Transnational Broadcasting Studies (TBS),
and member of the editorial advisory board of the Journal of International Communication
(JIC).
