Global Fusion,

Global Fusion
is an international consortium dedicated to the study of the interactive
impact of globalization and media.
Global Fusion's
goal is to consider the theoretical implications of the fields of international
and intercultural communication. The Adham Center is fortunate enough
to have one of its members participate in the consortium's annual academic
conferences.
Prof. Hussein
Amin, chair of the department of Journalism and Mass Communication and
senior associate at the Adham Center for Television Journalism, was
the keynote speaker at the first Global Fusion conference held in Adam's
Mark hotel, St. Louis, Missouri, in 2000.
Most recently,
Dr. Amin participated in the latest annual conference, hosted by the
University of Texas at Austin from 24 to 26 October, 2003. "Globalization
and Media Education" was the main topic discussed at that meeting
and Amin was a respondent on the panel "Global Confusion: Positioning
Media Research in the Global Context" and also participated in
a special workshop on Strategies for Getting Research, University-to
University Linkage and other Grants, Voice of America Awards, and Fulbright
Fellowships.

The Global Fusion
Consortium is an academic entity representing four
U.S. universities-Southern Illinois University, Ohio University, Purdue
University Calumet, and the University of Texas. Global Fusion is endorsed
by and includes plenary panels for the international divisions of the
Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication (AEJMC),
the Broadcast Education Association (BEA), the International Association
for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), and the International
Communication Association (ICA).
"The consortium's
objective is …to check and see the possibilities of how the different
sorts of globalization could be sent through different media all over
the world," Amin said.
The annual conference
is aimed at bringing together scholars and
professionals from all over the world and in different disciplines such
as film and television, journalism and telecommunications, economics
and law, diplomacy and policy, advertising and broadcasting, art and
literature, and digital media.
Amin plans to
participate in the next annual conference, which will be hosted by Southern
Illinois University in St. Louis, Missouri in Fall 2004. "The agenda
is being discussed now," Amin said.
